The Advanced Imaging Society’s 13th Annual Lumiere Awards were held on February 10th, 2023 at the Beverly Hills Hotel and presented by Microsoft. The theme for the awards was “Behind the Legend,” celebrating the creative teams behind the scenes. The winners were selected by members of the Hollywood creative and technology community working in motion pictures, television, and emerging media. 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: The Way of Water was awarded the Best Live Action Feature Film of the Year and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio received the Lumiere for Best Animated Feature Film. Elvis received awards for Best Motion Picture – Musical and Best Musical Scene or Sequence. Good Night Oppy won for Best Documentary, and Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick won Best Original Song. The Batman received the award for Best Audio – Theatrical, while Lightyear received the award for Best Use of HDR in a Feature Film. The Sir Charles Wheatstone Award was presented to Wētā FX for creative excellence in visual effects.
