Copenhagen is set to become the beating heart of the global optical communication community as it hosts ECOC 2025, the 51st European Conference on Optical Communication. From 28 September to 2 October, the Bella Centre will welcome researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders who are shaping the future of fibre optics, photonics, and network innovation. The exhibition runs between 29 September and 1 October, providing an arena where more than 300 exhibitors will showcase their latest breakthroughs to an audience of over 6,000 professionals.
The technical program is at the core of ECOC’s reputation, and this year promises to be no exception. Sessions will span the spectrum of optical communication science—from next-generation fibres and photonic devices to integration strategies, modulation techniques, system design, and advanced network architectures. It’s where theory meets practice, with plenary talks, oral sessions, and poster presentations sparking dialogue that pushes the field forward. Adding a layer of dynamism, special highlights include the European Integrated Photonics Forum meeting on 29 September, a lively “Hack Your Research!” event designed to engage minds differently, and a memorial session honoring Professor Josep Prat, a figure of immense influence in the field.
On the exhibition floor, visitors can expect to see the technologies that are already redefining connectivity and those that will soon power the networks of tomorrow. From component suppliers to system integrators, the breadth of participation underscores ECOC’s importance as a crossroads of science and business. The Product Focus theatre will once again serve as the stage for the ECOC Awards ceremony on 30 September, celebrating outstanding innovations in the industry. Beyond the formal agenda, ECOC 2025 offers an invaluable chance to connect with peers, forge new collaborations, and feel the pulse of a sector that underpins the digital economy.
