Apple has chosen to reopen one of its most storied locations with a flourish, bringing Apple Ginza back to life in the same district where the company’s Japanese retail journey first began in 2003. At the time, Apple Ginza was its first retail store outside the United States, a bold move that signaled the company’s ambitions to grow beyond its home market. Now, more than two decades later, Apple is returning to Ginza with a four-story redesign that blends technology, architecture, and cultural relevance in one of Tokyo’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
Tim Cook described the reopening as both a milestone and a symbol of Apple’s deep connection to Japan’s customers and communities. Deirdre O’Brien reinforced this sentiment, highlighting the excitement of welcoming people back with a “magical new experience.” Apple Ginza is meant not only as a store but as a showcase of Apple’s latest innovations, services, and unique cultural programming designed specifically for Tokyo.
Shoppers visiting the reimagined Ginza store will be able to experience the full lineup of Apple’s newest products, including the iPhone 17 family, iPhone Air, and the latest Apple Watch models. To mark the reopening, Apple is offering an exclusive, limited-time Apple Gift Card only available at this location. Beyond devices, the store integrates Apple’s hallmark retail services: one-on-one sessions with Specialists, trade-in and financing options, seamless Apple Pickup for online orders, and Genius Bar support tailored for every customer.
Programming plays a central role in this reopening. To celebrate, Apple Ginza will debut a Today at Apple Spotlight session featuring Japanese supergroup Number_i, introducing audiences to the creative potential of Spatial Audio and spatial video. Attendees can even book private demonstrations of Apple Vision Pro, stepping into an immersive behind-the-scenes look at Number_i’s “U.M.A.” music video. Additional sessions, from iOS 26 tips to getting started with iPhone 17, expand the opportunities for customers to explore and learn.
The design of the new Apple Ginza is just as significant as the technology it houses. The building combines cutting-edge sustainability with a strong sense of place, from its double-skin glass façade with adaptive louvers that adjust to Tokyo’s light and temperature, to warm wooden paneling that nods to traditional Japanese aesthetics. With balcony-like spaces overlooking the busy streets below and inclusive layouts with varied seating heights, the store is crafted as much for gathering and cultural exchange as for shopping. Powered entirely by renewable energy, Apple Ginza mirrors the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility while reflecting the energy and sophistication of the Ginza district.
The reopening of Apple Ginza is more than the unveiling of a retail store. It is a moment of cultural and corporate symbolism, reconnecting with history while pointing firmly toward the future. For Apple, Ginza is not just a retail address — it is the bridge between two decades of innovation and the unfolding journey ahead in Japan.
