The world-renowned traveling exhibition Pompeii: The Exhibition will arrive in Memphis on November 15th, 2024, at the Graceland Exhibition Center. This immersive experience takes visitors back to 79 A.D., just before the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius buried Pompeii under volcanic ash, preserving the city and its people in remarkable detail. Through a collection of over 150 priceless artifacts and cutting-edge multimedia technology, the exhibition tells the compelling story of a thriving Roman city frozen in time.
Guests will have the opportunity to explore Pompeii’s vibrant streets, discovering everyday items like gladiator armor, medical tools, jewelry, and furniture. Colorful murals, intricate mosaics, and statues provide a deeper look into the artistic and cultural life of the city. The exhibit’s highlight includes full-body casts of Pompeii’s residents, capturing their final moments as they were trapped by the eruption. These rare artifacts, on loan from The Naples National Archaeological Museum and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii in Italy, offer a window into how people lived, worshipped, worked, and entertained themselves before disaster struck.
Visitors can also engage with interactive elements, including a holographic display of gladiatorial combat and a 4D theater that simulates the stages of Mount Vesuvius’s eruption. Multimedia projections recreate the bustling Roman streets and landscapes, immersing patrons in the sights and sounds of Pompeii on the day of its destruction.
Angie Marchese, Vice President of Archives and Exhibits at Graceland, expressed excitement about hosting the exhibition, stating: “We built the Graceland Exhibition Center with the goal of bringing high-quality exhibitions to Memphis, and this is the perfect opportunity to showcase an incredible piece of history here at Graceland.” John Norman, President of NEON’s Creative Division and producer of the exhibition, added: “The story of Pompeii’s destruction and preservation provides a unique glimpse into ancient Roman life. The blend of artifacts with immersive technology allows visitors to experience the awe of both natural forces and human ingenuity.”
Timed-entry tickets are required, and advance reservations are strongly encouraged. Presale tickets are now available at PompeiiTheExhibition.com. For a limited time, visitors to the Graceland Exhibition Center can explore this extraordinary fusion of archeology, history, and technology.
